Asher & Company, Ltd.
Delivered Holiday Gifts to H.A. Brown School
Asher
conducted their largest holiday gift drive to provide
presents for the most needy children that attend H.A.
Brown
School
in Philadelphia.
Asher staff purchased and wrapped toys for 95 students—close
to a one-fourth of the student population.
A caravan of delivery vehicles dropped the presents at the school during
the morning of Monday, December 20th.
Randee Mellon, a specialist in Asher's Enterprise Group and the firm’s
Community Development Coordinator, has worked closely with
the school and speaks highly of Susan E. Shucker, the
beloved principal of
H.A.
Brown
School
for 15 years.
“She is involved in the life of her kids. She knows
all their names and every school day she greets the students
in the lobby of the school.”
Asher “adopted” H.A.
Brown
School
three years ago
when it delivered dozens of Christmas hams to the school for
needy families. Every
year since then, Asher has participated in a number of outreach
activities annually at the school, including:
·
“Stay
in School” Career Day:
A variety of Asher employees (accounting, marketing, and
administrative professionals) tell students what is required to
do their particular jobs and the steps the children must
take to succeed in these types of jobs.
·
Greater
Philadelphia
Cares Day:
Asher spruces up the school by painting halls and
rooms.
·
Principal
for a Day:
An Asher representative shadows and observes the principal
of the school for a day. (Students always check to make sure
that Susan Shucker is not being replaced!)
·
Jeans
Day: Asher employees donate $5 to the school for library books, and in
exchange, get to wear jeans to work.

Principal for a Day 2004 at H.A.
Brown School: As Told by Eric Curran, Asher's
"Principal"
On
December 5, 2004,
I participated in Greater Philadelphia Cares and the School
District of
Philadelphia
’s Principal for a Day.
At Asher & Company, we have a working partnership
with the
H.A
Brown
Elementary School
and Principal, Susan Shucker.
On December 5, I had the distinct pleasure of sharing
the principal duties with Ms. Shucker.
At Asher & Company we have
opportunities throughout the year to help the
H.A.
Brown
School
: donations, gifts to the children for Christmas, or
speaking to the children at a career day.
However, being the Principal for a Day allowed me to
see and understand what it takes to truly help such young,
impressionable children.
The dedication of the entire staff and administration
to teaching these children the curriculum and how much they
all cared about each individual child was incredible.
I could write an entire article on each meeting I got
to attend, or class I sat in on, or my dunking a basketball
at recess in a suit and tie as the children chanted,
“dunk, dunk, dunk,” but I felt it more important to tell
everyone how amazed and blessed I was to have had the
opportunity to help in the growth of these children even if
it was only for one day.
The entire
H.A.
Brown
School
, staff and students alike, should be applauded for their
wonderful efforts in making
Philadelphia
a better place to live and go to school.
I appreciate the opportunity that Ms. Shucker awarded
me, as I truly experienced the life of a Principal for one
day. It was a
day I shall never forget, and look for forward future events
between the
H.A.
Brown
School
and Asher & Company.

Asher Gives Holiday Gifts to H.A.
Brown School
For the second year, Asher employees
"adopted" students at H.A. Brown School for a
special holiday gift drive. The school provided names
and ages of children to Asher, and these were picked by the
staff. Staff then purchased and wrapped presents for
their particular child, so that their child could have a few
special gifts to enjoy for the holidays. Multiply this
by many, and you'll have the large group--van loads--of
gifts that Asher staff delivered to the school on December
8th. What a great way to spread happiness during the
season. Click here
